What is MBSR?
Mindfulness - Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)was pioneered by Jon Kabat - Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
It is an accessible and practical training in decreasing stress and nurturing health and well - being.
The eight week curriculum is an intensive training in meditative disciplines with the goal of helping people access their the inner wisdom and resources. Participants will engage in many aspects of mindfulness practices such as sitting, yoga, walking, Qi gong, eating and listening. Classes also include discussionson the patho - physiology of the stress reactionand how to cultivate greater resilience.
Over the last three decades, MBSR has proven to be highly effective in helping people lessen stress, cultivate ease and balance and promote a healthy life style.
The Mindfulness - Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program was started in 1979 at UMass Medical School's Stress Reduction Clinic by Jon Kabat- Zinn. It is a well defined and systematic patient -centered educational approach which uses relatively intensive training in mindfulness meditation as the core of the program to teach people how to take better care of themselves and live healthier and more adaptive lives. Welcome to MBSR of the Lake Tahoe/Truckee area. My name is Jackie Griffin. I am a Registered Nurse and MBSR instructor. I have practiced meditation for over 20 years and am excited to offer MBSR to my community. In June of 2014 I successfully completed all the requirements through the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society to teach the official 8 week MBSR class.
